Palladium, What Is It Used For Anyway?

Written By: Kevin Robbins, Gold Solutions

We all love our gold jewelry.  Some of us love silver and some even platinum but have you ever seen palladium?

In rare instances palladium is used in jewelry making.  Its primary two rolls lie in coins and exhaust systems.  Platinum and palladium are both used in the honeycomb within the baffles of the catalytic converters.  Most cars, especially the older models have in some cases much platinum and palladium in them.  It is used to help in emissions.

This is why catalytic converters tend to be expensive to replace in your vehicles.  The older cars can have a lot in them and are traded on the internet for this reason.  Next time you have your catalytic converter changed ask for it back and sell it on the net.
